Fabulous Web Sites for Writers

Resources I Like
Freelance Success
I can't say enough about this great resource for writers interested in publishing. It costs $89 per year to belong, but it has been one of the best investments I've made in my career. The fee includes a truly comprehensive weekly e-newsletter on freelance markets, and access to an active and informative discussion board.
Springboard for the Arts
This group offers resources and counseling for artists and other creative people. They offer classes and workshops with a focus on the business side.
Midwest Fiction Writers
This is a local chapter of Romance Writers of America. There is a mix of published and unpublished authors that meets once each month—the second Saturday—at the Edina Community Center. What a wonderful, creative group of writers—and I love the energy and learning that comes with the monthly meeting.
Rejection Collection
This is a pity party on the web. But, it is lighthearted, and has a nice sense of reassurance and community. There truly are levels of rejection!
Wooden Horse Publishing
This Web site is a nice surprise. There is comprehensive information on magazines and markets—much of it up to the minute.
Romance Writers of America

The Web home of Romance Writers of America.

The Loft Literary Center
A stunning resource for Minnesota writers. This literary center is one of a kind—there isn't anything like it elsewhere in the U.S. At the Loft, you'll find a warm welcome, hands-on writing classes, and a community of writers.
Newsthinking
This Web site offers a look at how news stories come together. It is a great resource and offers wonderful education and tips for writers at all levels.
The Poynter Institute
This site is the online home of the Poynter Institute, which is devoted to continuing education for newspaper writers.
About Freelance Writing
This site connects surfers to discussion groups, FAQs, and market listings for freelance writers. It is especially useful for writers at the beginning of their careers.
Writers Digest
This is the Web home of the popular magazine. Some writers like the "Market of the Day" postings.
Media Bistro
This site is probably most useful to New York writers—there are lots of events. For those of us not in the Big Apple, there are articles about media and links to jobs around the U.S. Some content is free, but there is a fee for the more premium information.
Insert Text Here (Really, this is the name!)
This is a page filled with links to journalism jobs, sites, information, and other "Word Stuff for Word People."
Society of Professional Journalists
The Web home of the Society of the Professional Journalists—a great organization for journalists.
